Awards

Pub of the Year

The Pub of the Year award is made to what the branch feels is the best pub to drink real ale in Calderdale.  As well as the quality of the beer, a number of other factors are considered, including the atmosphere and ambience, the range of beers, the facilities available and other events happening at the pub.  Voting takes place at a branch meeting, usually following some lively discussion.

Pub of the Season

The Pub of the Season award is presented to pubs that have seen a marked improvement in the quality and/or range of cask beers they sell.  Again, other factors are also considered.  However, this means that pubs already well known for selling a diverse range of excellent ales are unlikely to qualify.  Other criteria have been used, particularly where it is felt a good pub deserves wider recognition and the publicity the award brings.  There are only two seasons in Calderdale, reflecting the local weather.  The awards are usually presented towards the end of the season in question.

Other Awards

Entry into the Good Beer Guide is difficult enough so to be in for ten consecutive editions deserves extra recognition.  This is usually in the form of a decorative CAMRA mirror and/or a certificate.  Pubs gaining this award have included…

Fox and Goose, Hebden Bridge

Shears Inn, Halifax

Beer of the Festival

Awards are made for the most popular beers at the MAYFEST beer.  These are voted for by drinkers attending the festival.
